Sharpen or be sharpened.

Proverbs 27:17 (NIV)

17As iron sharpens iron,

so one person sharpens another

I have been thinking about this verse for a while now and the many meanings it has.

Making things more clear and distinct is our purpose as Christians. As iron makes the edge on iron more clear and distinct so shall we make the Word of God more clear and distinct for non-believers. We can also sharpening each other by sharing our insight and understanding of the Bible and our experiences. I also think holding each other accountable is a main factor in our walk in faith. If a brother or sister in Christ stumbles be there to pick them up and encourage them and teach them. When you share God’s word with others it also sharpens your own knowledge of The Word.

We should regularly share The Word of God with others to sharpen them and ourselves. Being there for a friend or family member when they need you. Sharing your knowledge to enlighten someone else is something we should do often. Helping a new brother or sister in their walk with Christ is a must if they are to flourish. I feel keeping my faith to myself and not sharing it with someone else is selfish. If we are called to LOVE then we should share the Good News to all that we can.

We should humble ourselves so we can be sharpened by other also. As humans this is a hard thing to do. Pride is taught at a young age to us. When it comes to learning we need to put our pride aside and listen to what others have to say so that we may draw closer to God. We should sharpen others but also make ourselves available to be sharpened by others.
